the right job experience and qualifications. If you qualify for skilled worker immigration
you can live and work permanently in Canada, and obtain permanent resident status
in Canada.
Quick Index
Canadian Federal Skilled Workers
Under Canada immigration federal skilled workers must have completed a post-secondary
education, have relevant work experience and knowledge of one of Canada’s official
languages (English or French)
Skilled workers are assessed against a point system. Points are awarded for education,
work experience, knowledge of at least one of Canada’s official languages (English
or French), age, authorized employment experience in Canada, authorized post-secondary
studies in Canada, spouse or common-law partner’s education, having a spouse or
common-law partner or a blood relative (not a cousin) who is a Canadian citizen
or a permanent resident of Canada. Skilled workers must have sufficient funds to
support themselves and their family members for at least six months after arriving
in Canada.
The experience of a skilled worker must have occurred within the ten years immediately
preceding the date of the application for permanent residence. It must be a Skill
Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the NOC (Canadian National Occupational Classification).
Quebec Skilled Workers
Quebec selects immigrants according to its needs. A Certificat de Sélection du Québec
must be obtained. Once obtained, an application for permanent residence in Canada
must be submitted to Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
Some selection factors taken into consideration by Quebec include the applicant’s
knowledge of French, field of education (for the principal applicant and the accompanying
spouse or common-law partner), experience, previous stays in Quebec (work, study,
visits, business), family members who live in Quebec and are Canadian citizens or
permanent residents of Canada, having a job offer in Quebec, having sufficient funds
to be self-sufficient in Quebec for at least three months after arrival in the province.
