Skilled worker immigration in Alberta is part of the Provincial Nominee Program.
This is an employer-driven immigration program managed by the government of Alberta
and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). The skilled worker immigration program
is designed to help candidates gain permanent residence and to help employers get
workers for their companies. This category of immigration is useful because it helps
workers get their application for permanent residence processed within 6-18 months.

About the Skilled Worker Category
The skilled worker immigration program has two main categories of skilled and semi-skilled
applicants.
- Skilled Workers and International Graduate Applicants
- Semi-skilled worker applicants. This category is designed for applicants in the
Food and beverage processing industry, Hotel and lodging industry, Manufacturing
industry and Trucking industry
This program is a two-step process:
- An employer applies to the program to have a foreign worker candidate nominated
on the employer's behalf
- The governmThe government assesses the provincial nominee candidate picked by the
employer to ensure that he/she meets all the requirements for the job. The candidate
is assessed once the employer is approved for the occupation.
Skilled Worker Application Requirements
In order to qualify, you must meet certain application requirements. You must have
an offer for permanent full-time employment with an employer from Alberta. Candidates
are assessed on the following categories:
- Related education
- Related work experience
- Qualifications that are required by the industries and associations to work
in the province
- Ability to settle in the province
