The British Columbia Business category of nomination has three streams:
  1. Business Skills
  2. Regional Business
  3. Strategic Projects
Business skills stream requirements

In order to be eligible for the in the business category of nomination, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Make an investment of a minimum of $400,000 to buy and expand an eligible business in British Columbia;
  • Create at least 3 new jobs in the business for Canadians or permanent residents;
  • Own at least one third of the business;
  • Participate in the everyday management of the business;
  • Possess the skills and experience necessary to establish and operate a business in the province;
  • Have a personal net worth of at least $800,000;
  • Submit a business proposal;
  • Sign a Performance Agreement with the Province declaring that the intention to implement the proposed plan.
Regional Business stream requirements

In order to be eligible for the Regional Business stream category of nomination, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Make an investment of a minimum of $200,000 to set up or buy and expand an eligible business in British Columbia in a region outside of the Vancouver metropolitan area or the Abbotsford metropolitan area;
  • Create at least 1 new job in the business for a Canadian or permanent resident;
  • Own a minimum of one third of the business;
  • Participate in the everyday management of the business;
  • Demonstrate the skills and experience needed to run a business in British Columbia;
  • Have a minimum personal net worth of $400,000;
  • Submit a business proposal;
  • Sign a Performance Agreement with the Province of British Columbia declaring the intention to implement the proposed plan.
Strategic Projects stream requirements

The Strategic Projects stream category of nomination is designed for companies based outside of Canada who are interested in establishing an eligible business in British Columbia with a team of foreign managerial, professional or technical staff. A maximum of 5 persons per company is allowed with this application. In order to be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Investment a minimum of $500,000 in the business;
  • For each nominee applicant put forward by the company, the company must create at least 3 jobs for Canadians or permanent residents in British Columbia;
  • Prove that the company has a good record of business practices and successful foreign business operation in a relevant field to the proposed business;
  • Establish or purchase and expand an eligible business anywhere in the province;
  • Incorporate any subsidiaries already in operation in the province;
  • Register any companies outside of British Columbia with the province (these should be mentioned in the application);
  • Prove the qualifications of the nominee senior personnel applicants who are essential to establishing or expanding and operating the proposed business;
  • Sign a Performance Agreement with the Province declaring that the intention to implement the proposed business plan;
Application process

Before submitting the formal application, applicants must submit the preliminary application form. There is no fee for submitting this application and no supporting documentation is required with the preliminary application. Once B.C. has reviewed this application, they will decide if the proposal will be a good initiative for the province.

A letter will be sent to the company inviting the applicants to submit the formal application once the preliminary application has been approved. This application will be sent with the approval letter. It is not available to persons who have not been approved. The forms for the formal application will be provided by the government of B.C. and cannot be found online.

Upon receiving the invitation letter from British Columbia, companies are advised to make an exploratory visit into the province. The following are the application forms for the British Columbia Business category of provincial nomination:

Must be completed by each person over the age of 18 who is included in the application

This form asks that the main applicant provide information about his/her family.
Schedule 4 [economic class]:
Provincial nominees must complete this form along with all other required forms for permanent residency

In order to be issued a visa, all candidates must meet criminal and medical admissibility requirements. requirements.
