  • What if I lost my Record of Landing?.
You cannot get a replacement Record of Landing but you can apply for a Verification of Status, which shows the same information, through us or through CIC.

An application for an amendment to your Record of Landing has no bearing on your immigration status in Canada even if the request is refused.
  • What if I don’t have the passport I used when I landed?.
If you no longer have the passport you used when you landed in Canada, this will have a negative effect on your request to amend your Record of Landing. You may still apply if you have the other documentation, however every request is at the discretion of the officer reviewing the application.
  • What if I don’t have any documents from my home country?.
If you do not have any documents issued from the time before you became a permanent resident of Canada, your application will likely be refused. You may attempt to replace these documents by contacting government agencies in your home country and any other countries where you resided prior to becoming a permanent resident of Canada before submitting your application.

Immigroup is able to help you acquire documentation from English-speaking countries. We may be able to help with acquiring documentation from other countries as well. Contact us to see if we can help!

Troubleshooting

  • Can I get my Record of Landing amended urgently?
Yes, however you must provide written proof that failure to provide a copy of your Record of Landing with correct information will result in loss of government benefits or employment
  • I have lost my original Record of Landing.
In this case you need to apply for a Verification of Status instead of an amendment because you are not making changes to your landing document.
  • My request to amend my Record of Landing was refused.

If your Request to Amend Your Record of Landing was refused, you will be advised in writing by CIC why the application was not approved. Should you decide to reapply in the future, ensure you have as many of the documents on the checklist as possible, including:

    • Passport you landed with
    • Birth Certificate
    • Baptismal Certificate
    • Hospital Record of Birth
    • Marriage Certificate
    • Identity Card
    • Driver’s License
    • Any other government-issued IDs with your full name and the information you are trying to amend
  • I submitted my Request to Amend months ago and haven’t had any response
Contact CIC at 1-888-242-2100 to find out the progress of your application

Filing an application FAQs

  • Why would I need to amend my Record of Landing?
If your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) contains a mistake, this discrepancy can prevent you from getting the government benefits you are entitled to as a permanent resident or a naturalized citizen of Canada, or even cause more serious problems such as loss of employment. Your Record of Landing should reflect your vital statistics as of the date you landed in Canada.
  • Who can apply to amend their Record of Landing?
To be eligible to apply for an amendment to your Record of Landing, you must have at one time been a Permanent Resident of Canada, even if you no longer live in Canada or you are a naturalized Citizen of Canada. The mistake on your Record of Landing must have been made by immigration officials when entering your information when you landed in Canada. If the passport you used at the time you landed in Canada contains an error which is on your Record of Landing, CIC will not issue an amendment.
  • What is the application process?
    • 1.Complete the application forms.
    • 2.Gather all necessary documents.
    • 3.Include proof of urgency, if applicable.
    • 4.Submit the application

  • What are the documents required when applying for an amendment to the Record of Landing?
You must submit a copy of your passport used at the time of landing. If you do not have this, it will be very difficult to obtain a positive result to your request to amend your Record Landing. You must also submit
    • A copy of a valid government-issued photo ID
      • Driver’s License
      • Provincial or Territorial Photo ID Card
      • Health Card

Once your Record of Landing is amended, it is permanently changed. The change cannot be undone and does not expire.
  • Do I need to request an amendment to my Record of Landing if I change my name?
If you have legally changed your name, this information cannot be changed on your Record of Landing. However, you may change this information on your PR Card or Canadian Citizenship certificate
  • I have tried calling CIC but I can't get through. How can I contact them?
CIC has a single call center which may be contacted at 1-888-242-2100. They accept calls from - Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., EST, except for statutory holidays. Services are available in French and English. Frequently all agents are busy and callers are unable to get through. In this situation, you must simply call back at another time. The best times and days to call are listed on a recording when you call the CIC call center. There are no other numbers that can be used to call CIC. The CIC call center may only be called from within Canada. If you are outside of Canada, you must have someone from inside Canada call on your behalf.

I am in big trouble - HELP! FAQs

  • I am going to lose my pension / government benefits / job unless I change something on my Record of Landing. What should I do?
If you submit your application with written proof of your situation you will be able to amend your Record of Landing in 30-90 days instead of the usual 6 months.
  • I lost my Record of Landing.
You may apply for a Verification of Status document which will serve as a replacement rather than an amendment.
  • My status in Canada is in jeopardy. Will I get deported if I get my Record of Landing amended?
An application to amend your Record of Landing will have no bearing on any other applications or procedures you have in process with CIC.
  • How do I fix a typo on my Record of Landing?
You have to prove to CIC that immigration officials made a mistake when entering your information when you landed. To do this you must submit the application forms, copies of your passport at the time of landing, and other government IDs issued before you came to Canada that show the correct information you are trying to fix.
  • I have a criminal record. Can I still apply for an amendment to my Record of Landing?
If you have been convicted of a crime since landing in Canada, and you are NOT a Canadian citizen, there is a possibility that CIC may investigate your status in Canada in relation to your criminal convictions. If you are not a Canadian citizen, you must disclose if you have been convicted of a crime on your Request to Amend your Record of Landing application and include relevant court documents.
  • My application was refused. What do I do now?
You should have received a letter indicating that your application was refused. If you choose to re-apply, you should follow any instructions in that letter. In order to prove the mistake on your Record of Landing was the fault of an immigration official, you need to provide as much evidence as possible regarding the information you are trying to change. You must submit copies of the passport you landed with – including both the ID page and the page with the landing stamp – and you must submit additional government IDs issued before you came to Canada which contain the information you are requesting to correct. You should submit copies of as many of the following as possible:
    • Birth certificate
    • Baptismal certificate
    • Hospital record of birth
    • Identity Card
    • Driver’s License
    • Marriage certificate / license
    • Any other government-issued ID containing the information you are trying to correct
  • I do not have the passport I used at the time of landing. Can I still apply?
It is unlikely that your request to amend your Record of Landing will be granted if submitted without your passport used at the time of landing. You need to submit copies of as many documents from the above list as possible to demonstrate that the information on your Record of Landing is incorrect. The more documents you can provide, the better the chance of making a successful request to amend your IMM 1000.
  • I have no documents from my home country except a current passport. Can I get my Record of Landing amended?
You need to provide documentation issued before you came to Canada in order to apply. You will have to obtain these documents before you can proceed with the application. You need your birth certificate, marriage certificate (if applicable) and anything else you can get from your home country that will show the mistake was made by an immigration official.
  • I have received no response from CIC and it has been over 6 months since I applied.
You should contact CIC as soon as possible to get an update on your application.

Basic info FAQ’s

  • What is a Record of Landing?
The Record of Landing (IMM 1000) is the official government document you receive when you arrive in Canada for the first time as an immigrant. It records information about you at the time of landing including
    • Your name and any aliases
    • Your gender
    • Your passport details
    • Your marital status
    • Your preferred language
    • Your address
    • Your date of entry and date of granting of permanent residence

The Record of Landing document is the official proof of your status in Canada. It can be used to secure benefits given to permanent residents. It is not valid to prove your status for international travel.

  • Can I replace my Record of Landing if it is lost?
You can amend your Record of Landing by filing a Request to Amend the Record of Landing and you can get a Verification of Status document which serves as a replacement, but you cannot replace your original if it was lost, stolen or damaged
  • Why would I want to amend my Record of Landing?
    • If there is a mistake on your Record of Landing it can negatively affect your position in Canada, as you need your Record of Landing to apply for certain government benefits such as a pension. If the document does not have accurate information, you may also be denied employment. The solution is to file a Request to Amend the Record of Landing. Please note that this is a request to fix mistakes made by immigration officials only. If one of your documents issued before you came to Canada contained the mistake, your application will likely be refused.
    • The following information can be changed on CIC records:
      • Citizenship / Country of Birth
      • Marital Status
      • Place of Birth
      • Given Name
      • Sex
      • Date of Birth
      • Date of Landing
      • Date of Original Entry
  • What documents do I need to submit with the form?
You must submit a copy of your passport at the time of landing, a Canadian government-issued photo ID, and as many documents verifying your identity and showing your correct information as you want it to appear on your amended Record of Landing as you can provide which were issued before you landed in Canada.
