About Restricted Occupations

CIC Canada tries to protect the local labor market with a restricted occupation list so that there are not too many people with same skills working in Canada.

If your occupation is listed in the Restricted Occupation, you cannot use this working experience to meet the minimum working experience requirement or earn a corresponding score in the selection grid.

However, at present there are no restricted occupations.

If your situation is one of the following, you do not meet the minimum requirements:

  • None of your working experience is listed in the NOC list;
  • Your experience did not occur in the 10 years before you applied; or
  • Your only working experience is a restricted occupation.

You will have to remember that if you do not meet the minimum working experience, your application will be refused.
