SKILLED WORKERS VIDEO
As a response to its need for immigrants, Canada offers several immigration categories under which a person can apply for permanent residence. One these is the skilled worker category.
Skilled workers are persons who have obtained a certain degree of education, work experience, knowledge of English or French, and who bring their skills and experience to Canada. This category gives you the opportunity to live and work in Canada and eventually become a Canadian citizen. In 2002, Citizenship and Immigration Canada changed the Immigration Act and Regulations and the new law introduced a point system to assess skilled worker. The new law determined that the minimum score would be 67 points and established that points would be awarded for age, education, experience, knowledge of English or French as well as other factors that will determine if you will be able to adapt in the country.
Another important factor to consider is the amount of funds available for settlement in Canada. Remember, if you are travelling with your family you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family members for at least six months after arriving in Canada.
Submitting an application for permanent residence in Canada as a skilled worker can be time consuming. There are several forms to be completed you must obtain documents to demonstrate you have the education, work experience, language proficiency, and other requirements established by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. This process involves time and attention to detail and often, small details can be overlooked when a person is under pressure.
If you are curious to learn if you qualify for immigration to Canada as a skilled worker fill out a pre-assessment questionnaire to find out.
