Marriage of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada to a foreigner

Are you a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada?  Do you wish to marry a foreigner who lives abroad and would like that special person to live in Canada?  Immigroup Immigration Services counsels you and helps you through the process of obtaining, completing, and submitting the documentation required to get married as well as through the process of sponsoring your spouse or partner for immigration to Canada.  We provide legal representation.  We assist you from the time you start the process until the time a permanent resident visa is issued.

Documents required for marrying a foreigner and to prove the relationship is genuine:

  • Marriage certificate from the civil authority of the country where the marriage took or will take place. [See the List of Countries]
  • Proof of relationship both ways.  This includes letters, postmarked envelopes, copies of emails and of records of online conversations, greeting cards, phone bills (not pre-paid cards), photos, copy of plane tickets and boarding passes, passports with entry and exit stamps from the country where your spouse resides, money transfers.

Reasons for delay in the process of an application to sponsor a spouse for residence in Canada

The process of sponsoring a spouse for permanent residence in Canada has two different aspects:

  1. The sponsor submits a sponsorship to Citizenship & Immigration Canada on behalf of his or her spouse who lives abroad for residing in Canada.
  2. The spouse residing abroad completes an application for permanent residence in Canada.

The process can be delayed if:

  • Incomplete information is submitted
  • Incomplete documentation is submitted
  • Insufficient or no proof of relationship is submitted to prove the relationship is genuine

Immigroup Immigration Services helps you avoid unnecessary delays.  We help you through the entire process, from beginning to end, to obtain, complete, and submit all the required forms and supporting documents for sponsoring your spouse for immigration to Canada.
