First-time Applicants for a UK Passport in Canada


The following instructions are for applicants born OUTSIDE the UK who are claiming British citizenship by descent from a British parent and who have never had a British passport before.


Use the following guidelines to see if you meet the requirements:

Descent from a father: You were born to a father who was a British citizen at the time of your birth AND your father was legally married to your mother at that time.

Descent from a mother: You are entitled to a British Passport if you were born after January 1, 1983 AND your mother was a British Citizen at the time of your birth. If you were born before January 1, 1983 to a British mother you may still be eligible for a passport. Please contact us for an in depth assessment of your case.


Immigroup service 4-6 weeks – simply send your completed UK passport application along with supporting documentation to Immigroup and you will receive your passport by courier.

The application for a UK passport in Canada is a four step process:

STEP 1: Place your order by clicking on the “Place Your Order” button below. You can download the UK passport application package once payment has been processed. Fill out the downloaded passport application form including an Immigroup order form.
STEP 2: Fax your completed UK passport application and order form to Immigroup. An agent will contact you within 24 hours once the application has been reviewed.
STEP 3: Correct any errors and courier your application and supporting documents to Immigroup.
STEP 4: Receive your UK passport in person or by courier depending on the service you purchased.

STEP 1

  1. Application:

    Fill out and sign your application form.

    NOTE: if you are not sure how to complete a particular section of the UK passport application form please leave it blank. We will call you back once you have faxed your forms to us.

  2. Documents:

    Make a photocopy of the front and back of a Provincial photo ID.

  3. Photos:

    See your local photographer and ask for 2 UK passport photographs.
    NOTE: Photos must meet the specifications outlined by the application and taken within the past 12 months.

  4. Guarantor:

    Please see the instructions printout to find out who can be your guarantor. Your guarantor needs to complete and sign Section 10 on page 4 of your passport application. Note: Your guarantor must also sign one of your photographs and the photocopy of your provincial photo ID.

  5. Original Documents:

    You must submit the following original documents with your UK passport application:

    1. UK Birth Certificate of your British mother of father.

      - If your parent has lost their UK Birth Certificate, please click here.

    2. Your Long-Form Canadian Birth Certificate.

      - If you do not have a Long-Form Birth Certificate, please click here.

    All original documents will be returned to you.
    If you are missing a document, Immigroup will help you to obtain it. Please inform us of that missing document when we you are contacted by Immigroup.
    If you do have the above documents please make a copy and fax them to us along with the application for review.

  6. Other Requests: Adding a married surname to your valid passport? Your previous passport is lost or stolen? Ask our specialists once we call you back after you have faxed your application to us.

STEP 2
