Resume Instructions

When you compose a resume yourself to find a job in Canada you should include the following.

1. A Clear and Professional Looking Email Address
Make sure it is not more than 10 characters before the @ symbol. Ideally, your e-mail address should have your first name and last name or initials. It’s OK to insert a period, hyphen, or underscore in between your first and last names.

For example:
Yes: Accountant25@gmail.com
Yes: John.Doe@yahoo.com
No:  Budapestgeorgelaczko@hotmail.com  (Too Long)
No:  partyhard@hotmail.com (Unprofessional)
Gmail is the best email to use.  It works well, is easily recognizable and it is more new and professional looking than other email providers like Hotmail or Yahoo.

2. Your Work Experience
You should give a list of your work experience that best fits the job you are applying for.  A chronological list from most recent to least is best if every job you’ve had in the recent past is in the industry you’ll be applying for.  If you’ve been working out of your industry, you should give a list of your work experience from most relevant to least.

3. Your Related Skills
Listing all of your skills can help you find a job in Canada.  Related skills can include items like specific computer skills, or aptitudes you’ve developed in your career such as time management. For example:  Microsoft Office, Time Management, Attention to Detail, Contract Negotiations

4. Your Education
Education is extremely important to employers. Be sure to list all of your education, including individual courses you may have taken or professional development you completed in your job.
