Hi, my mother was born in Scotland in 1966 to a Nigerian Father and mother. Her father studied and worked there. He later got a British citizenship by naturalization. So is she a British citizen? And are her children British citizens by descent?

Hello,
Yes, your mother is a British citizen since she was born in Scotland, part of UK.
Naturalization (or naturalisation) is the legal act or process by which a non-citizen in a country may acquire citizenship or nationality of that country.

If your child was born in the UK and at the time of the birth either of her/his parents were: British citizens themselves; or. settled in the UK, then your child was automatically born a British citizen, and you can apply to the British Passport Office for a British passport for the child.

I pointed that out because different rules applied in 1966. Still helpful though.

Could you tell me where you found it? I'd like to contact them.
