HI ! My wife's and Son's (Age 17yrs) PR status expired in 2011, but due to my traveling to Canada I could manage to extend my PR till 2021. Now i want my Son to come to Canada for higher Studies as a PR, ( As his PR card has expired but i guess his status is still as a PR) Now do i need to apply for a sponsorship for my son in order to apply for a new PR or first ill have to surrender his PR status and apply fresh? Thx!

So...

If your son can enter the country through a land border (i.e. from the US) in a private vehicle using his COPR, you don't need to sponsor him. However, there is a risk that, when trying to enter, he'll have his status revoked when he tries to enter.

If he can't do that, he'll have to renounce his status first before you can sponsor him, as just because the card expired doesn't mean he lost his status.
