  • I was in Canada in the year 1993 on a PR and stayed there for 6 months and then returned to my country. It was hard to find a job those days and hence I returned. Now, to visit Canada, should I renounce my PR status before applying for a visitor visa? OR if I prefer, is it possible to re-validate my expired PR card? If yes, what is the process and how long it might take?

    Thank you.

In normal circumstances you could try flying to the US and driving across the border and seeing if they would let you in with your Record of Landing. However, I don't know how possible that is currently.

Moreover, I've heard rumours that the CBSA (border agency) have started checking the dates of Records of Landing/COPRs for people doing this.

The safest thing is likely to renounce your PR status.
