First time British passport question

I am hoping someone can help me. I was born in Canada 1992, my mom was born in London UK 1956 (has new British passport as of 2yrs ago) and married my dad who is Canadian not British.
I would like to apply for British Passport but I am confused on the rules. According to the UK Gov passport page "If you were born before 1 July 2006, then British nationality can only be claimed through the father if your parents were married at the time of your birth, or have married since. "
Am I able to apply for a passport? My mom told me it used to be you could apply if your mother is British and born on or before a certain time, but it seems the rules have changed?

Hi,
That quote is misleading. It refers to when you have a British father. Since you have a British mother, you are fine to go ahead and apply for your passport. You'll need copies of her birth certificate, her passport, your birth certificate (with her name on it - long form), and your parents' marriage certificate.

Hope this helps.
