I am a US citizen but father is British

Hello everyone!

My father is British, but has lived in the U.S. for 47 years. I was born in the US and my only tie with the UK is through him. My half brother, however, was born in England and came to the states as a baby and has dual citizenship. Is it worth applying for UK Citizenship? If so, would I need to renunciate my US citizenship?

Hi Kathryn,
Provided your father was born in the UK, it sounds like you are eligible. You will need his birth certificate, his passport, your US Passport, your birth certificate (the "long form" naming him as your father) and passport photos.
The US ignores dual citizenship so you will not have to renounce.

Hope this helps.
