  • Mother was born in London, England in 1936. I was born in the US in 1962. Applied for a UK passport and was refused based on my mother and not my father being a UK citizen. But brother, grandparents, etc. all British citizens. Born before 1983, told I must apply for British citizenship before applying for passport. What are chances of success in this case?

    Yes, you have to apply for citizenship first. Your chances are good because, from what you've said here, you qualify.
