Options After Expiration of Permanent Residence

Hello Everyone,
My current permanent resident is set to expire within next few months. My spouse is Canadian resident and has begun application for Canadian Passport. I am trying to explore and weigh options to move to Canada permanently next year. I am looking for clarification of few things,

1. Can my spouse sponsor my application for Permanent Resident while my Permanent residence is still active?

2. If option # 1 is not feasible, am I eligible for an open work permit?

Thanks,
New Canadian Immigrant

If you mean your Canadian permanent residence when you say
My current permanent resident is set to expire within next few months.
your PR doesn't expire, only your PR Card. So, if you move back to Canada before your PR Card expires, you are fine.

  1. Unless I'm missing something, this question doesn't make any sense to me. You have PR already you cannot get sponsored unless you lost your PR.
  2. You cannot apply for temporary resident status if you have permanent resident status. You have to lose your PR first.
Am I missing something?
